Our Verdict

The Weleda Calendula Diaper Rash Cream is an effective cream that helps treat and soothe irritations on a baby's bottom. With natural ingredients, free of petroleum, fragrance, and preservatives, this cream is a product we love. However, the cream's aluminum packaging is a drawback as it can crack causing the cream to spill out. However, overall, we think the cream effectiveness overrides this issue, and it is one we highly recommend. To compare it to the competition, check out our article on the best diaper creams.

Between hands-on testing and our own experience using this product on our babies, we believe the Weleda Calendula Diaper Rash Cream (2.8 oz tube) is a powerful remedy for treating, protecting, and soothing baby's red bottom. The formula consists of natural ingredients that you can feel good about using on your baby's delicate skin. It is free of petroleum, fragrances, colorants, and synthetic preservatives. Some key ingredients include zinc oxide (12%), which provides a barrier on baby's skin, calendula flower extract from their own Biodynamic® garden in Germany relieves baby's skin from inflammation and redness, and fair-trade beeswax that coats the skin, adding a breathable protective lining on baby's bottom. We think the cream is easy to smear, and leaves a thin protective layer on the baby's skin. Although we believe the cream's scent is pleasant, it does not appeal to everyone.

Dislikes

As a product with zinc oxide, we feel it is not suitable for cloth diapering families due to potential staining and residue that would inhibit absorption. The aluminum packaging is a drawback, too. From our testing, we find this material to lack durability as frequent bending creates weak points, which are prone to splitting and escaping cream.

Conclusion

This cream is one of our favorites and a “go-to” when diaper rashes appear. We think this cream to be worth the expense, despite the packaging's drawback. If you are looking for a top-notch product and one you can feel good about using on your baby's skin, we highly recommend this cream for tackling fiery red diaper rashes.
