Our Verdict

The Walmart Parent's Choice diaper is a budget-friendly diaper that offers relatively good absorption of liquids. Unfortunately, absorption is only part of the picture, and this diaper did not stand up to the competition when it came to leakage or any other metric we considered. Parent's Choice diaper is not eco-friendly and uses chlorine in the production process, something many high-end brands are choosing to leave out. We think this diaper could score higher if it were better on leaks, and if it were more comfortable and durable, two components it seems to lack.

The Parent's Choice diaper performed fairly well in our tests for absorption with an above-average score, which significantly helped its overall score because absorption is weighted heavier than any other metric we test. The diapers we tested were fairly consistent across the board, implying consistent quality. It is easy to see from the pictures of the test paper that not much transfer of moisture to the paper, meaning baby's tushie should stay drier than it would with much of the competition.

While Parent's Choice does lock away moisture eventually, the run-off and potential for leaks are still rather high as indicated by this test and online reviewers that experienced leaks.

Dislikes

There is a lot to dislike about this diaper, and if it hadn't performed so well in tests for absorption, then it would have scored lower. This diaper earned one of the lowest scores in the group for leakage, with a significant number of online reviewers complaining of leaks using this diaper. Our leak test results also resulted in a good amount of runoff as the absorption of liquid was slow.

We don't like that Parent's Choice is still using older methods of manufacturing that uses chlorine and produces dioxins in the diapers.

We don't like that Walmart has not considered the environment or baby's health, earning with abysmally low scores for eco-friendliness and baby's health. While no disposable diaper is great for the Earth, there are steps to make them more friendly, like using renewable resources or being biodegradable under the right conditions. For health, this diaper does not offer a full disclosure list of materials and chemicals used, and it isn't free of dyes or lotion. It looks to made using chlorine (something many higher-end diaper brands are moving away from). It is fragrance-free, which is something, but babies with sensitive skin may react to the added lotions or the dioxins left behind during the manufacturing process.

Parent's Choice is not very comfortable or durable earning below average marks in both metrics.

More to dislike, this diaper is not very comfortable. With a below-average score comfort, this diaper didn't impress. It does have nicer elastic on the back, and the motion points are not too rough, but the fabric isn't soft, and the tabs can be somewhat poky.

Conclusion

Walmart Parent's Choice diaper is an inexpensive diaper that many budget-conscious parents may try. It offers better than average performance for absorbing liquids, but it isn't the best at preventing leaks, and it doesn't have much else to offer. This diaper is not eco-friendly, doesn't offer much in the way of consideration for baby's health, and isn't as comfortable or durable as much of the competition.
