Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
UPPAbaby derives inspiration from family, seeking to create gear that is safer, easier, and fun. They primarily make full-size strollers and car seats.
We believe the adapters, when using two seats, are mandatory. These adapters create a greater distance between seats, increasing the potential to recline and decreasing the opportunity for one child to kick or hassle another child's seat. We highly recommend using the adapters if you plan to use the Vista for two.
Ease of Use
The Vista v3 double stroller is an easy-to-use, day-to-day stroller.
Multiple features on the Vista are designed with the user in mind, intuitive, and work as you'd expect.
Fold and Unfold
The two-handed fold of the Vista v3 requires full extension of the handle, tucking the leg rests under, pushing the button on both sides, and guiding into a folded position. More petite testers did find it slightly challenging, due to the overall size and how cumbersome it can be at 36.2 lbs. They found removing the second seat and locking the brakes first made the fold easier. Both seats must also face forward to fold without removing one seat.
Unfolding the Vista v3 requires two hands and is easy. You fully extend the handle, fold the toddler leg rest down, push the different colored buttons on both sides of the frame, and then guide it to fold and latch. Given how massive the stroller is and that no instructions are included, there may be a little bit of a learning curve for some. Unfolding requires just unlocking the latch and shaking it to its usable position.
Storage
The storage compartment is massive and holds up to 30 lbs of supplies, accommodating supplies for more than one child. We easily fit a large and a medium diaper bag. There are also several small pockets along the back and inside rear of the bin.
Access was easy from the front and the back unless both seats were facing the parent. The storage capacity was severely limited due to the lower seat sitting down into the bin, where the legs would take up space. To maximize storage, we recommend that both seats be forward-facing.
Harness
Both seats on the Vista v3 have a five-point harness, featuring easy-to-slide, skin-friendly fabric and a unique magnetic buckle. With a little practice, the two-part buckle can be used one-handed.
The harness straps are non-rethread and require minimal effort when adjusting to accommodate kids of various heights and ages. Each strap also features removable, washable shoulder pads for comfort on long rides.
Brakes
The single-action brakes are engaged and disengaged by pressing a sandal-friendly, red pedal on the lower right-hand side. A red/green color-coded brake indicator takes the guesswork out of knowing when the brakes are fully engaged or not.
Maneuverability
The Vista v3's maneuverability is impressive, especially because it is not a jogging stroller. While the longer length does mean you have to be careful in tight indoor spaces, it's still a dexterous navigator that is a pleasure to push.
The foam-filled plastic wheels lock in the front and are larger in the back to help with more challenging terrain. This mover easily dominates on smooth surfaces but also conquers tall grass, broken asphalt, and off-road terrain with top marks. Pushing uphill in tall grass or sand requires more strength and is a workout.
The suspension on the Vista v3 made jumping up and down curbs easy and fluid. The more fluid movement of the sling-style seats provide extra shock-absorption on bumpy terrain for a comfortable ride.
Steering with one hand is no problem, just avoid the adjustment button in the center. The leather-wrapped, telescoping handlebar can be raised or lowered just by pushing this button for fluid height changes when you are on the go.
Transporting and Storing
The UPPAbaby Vista v3 is a sizable stroller, partially due to its inline design but also because of all its amazing features and add-on seating options. It folds relatively flat, and removing both seats decreases the square footage it takes up, but it will still take up more space than many competitors, and often, you won't be in a situation that allows you to tote multiple parts.
Weight and Folded Size
The Vista v3 weighs about 36.4 lbs and measures 22,913 cubic inches when folded. It is not a stroller for traveling or public transport because it takes up too much space when folded, has no carry handles, and the self-stand feature is finicky when the second seat is attached.
Storing should be no problem for large vehicles or homes, but smaller cars or apartments may present a challenge, given the real estate this stroller demands. Removing the seats to get a smaller fold size also takes time and will be challenging if you are wrangling two kids and all their belongings.
Kid Ride
The Vista v3 offers a comfortable ride for younger kids, with various options focused on maximizing your little one's enjoyment and relieving any additional transportation-focused parent stressors.
Seat
The sling-style seats are shallow but comfortable for rides of any duration. The leg rests adjust up or down by pushing the buttons simultaneously on both sides. Both seats recline rapidly by pressing a button with one hand. No more frustration with pulling tabs, squeezing finicky clips, or tucking in excess fabric. However, without the adapters, the angle they can go is limited.
Expandability
The Vista v3 works transports up to three children, with seating options that include a toddler seat (second slightly smaller rumble seat), bassinet, car seat carrier, and a riding board (most of these purchased separately). Buying both upper and lower seat adapters is a must; otherwise, the passenger experience is sacrificed due to not enough space for kids or their legs, easily leading to siblings disturbing each other. The rumble seat can only go on the front of the stroller and has a lower weight capacity than the toddler seat, so your younger child may be farther away when using it.
Despite UPPABaby advertising up to 30 different configurations with the Vista v3, we found that many positions led to kids' legs overlapping, decreased storage space, or an inability to recline for either passenger. The variety of combinations lends itself to creating a custom transportation experience for parents.
Sunshade
The extendable, water-repellant canopy offers full coverage, a zippered extension panel, and optional ventilation to protect from the sun and adjust for the weather. Toddlers will appreciate the adjustable height, and parents will love the solid framing that maintains its shape with no sagging and offers a peek-a-boo mesh opening for easy viewing of your children.
Quality
The Vista v3 is a luxurious-looking stroller that features premium materials, including durable fabric, full-grain leather details, and a solid aluminum frame.
The Vista v3's higher price tag is reflected in the phenomenal quality of its many components. The seats feature thicker padding and offer a patented All-Weather Comfort Seats removable insert for cooler days, which converts to mesh in the summer for comfortable travel all year long. The robust canopy fits the frame nicely for a sleek appearance.
The wheels are foam-filled, polyurethane, so they never go flat. The wheels and the storage bin have reflective detailing to help increase visibility and safety at night. There are no flexing or weak points on the frame, and the suspension on the Vista v3 has been improved from the v2.
Car Seat Compatibility
The Vista v3 is a rare option that can work with two infant car seat carriers simultaneously. The UPPAbaby Mesa car seat works without adapters, and it will also accommodate several other brands using adapters, including many options from Chicco, Maxi-Cosi, Nuna, Cybex, Clek, and Peg Perego. To attach any carrier, just remove the toddler seat, pop on the adapters (if needed), and it will securely click into place.
Ease of Setup
The Vista v3 is easy to set up and takes about 15-20 minutes, most of it spent unwrapping the protective packaging. The wheels, toddler seat, canopy, and bumper bar snap into place, and then the rumble seat can be installed at the end. The instructions do a great job of simplifying what could be a confusing process, by using color-coded, neatly documented steps via images.
Twins
The Vista is a fantastic option for families with twins. It affords the option of using two bassinets or two infant care seats, enabling small infants to travel in style and comfort, thus making longer excursions more enjoyable. The two toddler seats are similar in design and eliminate arguing about who sits where. The enormous storage bin allows parents of twins to bring along all the supplies their little ones might need, including space for two diaper bags.
Should You Buy the Vista v3?
The Vista is an aesthetically beautiful stroller that capitalizes on quality by using only premium materials and featuring a variety of customizing options, which discerning parents of growing families will happily pay a higher price tag for if money is no object. We love the flexibility of the comfortable seating options, the generous canopy and storage bin, and the fact that it's easy to push. Overall, we think this is the best inline stroller that we have tested, and parents who do not want a side-by-side option will be happy.
What Other Double Stroller Should You Consider?
The Vista has a higher luxury purchase price tag, which could be a no-go for many. The Evenflo Pivot Xpand Double is another stroller that offers inline seating and similar features and is typically a third of the price of the Vista. While it is similar in size and didn't score as well in maneuverability or quality, we think it will meet the needs of most families at a fraction of the price.
