Our Verdict
The Stokke YOYO 3 is a luxury-priced travel stroller that fails to deliver enough to justify its price point compared to other similarly or lower-priced options. This YOYO impresses with its compact folded size but struggles to deliver the maneuverability, material quality, and child comfort you would expect. The fold is unnecessarily challenging and less simple than most competitors', which will make traveling with it more frustrating than it needs to be. While we appreciate the unique design, there are better options available within the price range that most users would be happier with.

Transporting and Storing
When it comes to transport and storage, the fairly compact YOYO 3 shines in some respects but can be frustrating in others.

The YOYO 3 weighs a manageable 14.5 lbs, which is about average amongst travel strollers. When folded, it stands on its own, but in this position, the seat padding rests on the ground, and the harnesses can dangle, leading to both getting wet and/or dirty and, over time, potentially damaged.

It measures 20"L x 17.3"W x 7.1"H or 4,023 cubic inches when folded. This is a nice, compact square fold, not the smallest we tested, but close. It is easy to lift and carry thanks to the attached handle, even when your hands are full. However, while loading or unloading, we inadvertently grabbed it by the push handle, causing it to unfold. We imagine this will be problematic when trying to get on a train or bus.

Ease of Use
When it comes to ease of use, the YOYO 3 struggles in most metrics to keep up with the competitors.

Fold and Unfold
The fold on the YOYO 3 is more cumbersome and frustrating than it needs to be. The two-handed, three-step process required us to set down everything else we were carrying to secure the stroller into its folded shape. This can be inconvenient when juggling a child and other travel items. One of the steps required us to lean way down and blindly find a lever and button under the child seat; this, along with the need to lean so far down, makes it one of our least favorite travel strollers to fold.

Unfolding is easier, but we needed two hands. It helps that it stands on its own, so we didn't need to lean completely over to unlock it and return to a strolling position.

Storage
The storage on the YOYO 3 disappoints, but not in the way we usually see. We like the pocket on the back of the seat for phone storage or snacks, but the basket itself is where it falls short.

The storage area holds a whopping 22 lbs, which is impressive. Unfortunately, the capacity is among the smallest we've seen, and we think it would be a struggle to fit anywhere near 22 lbs worth of items in the available space. The design makes it difficult to access the bin from the back because of a small opening, and access from the front is almost impossible, as two frame bars stick down and cover most of the opening. Long story short, we couldn't carry much, which was disappointing given the advertised limits.

Harness
The YOYO 3 has a standard rethread height adjustment that is slightly easier than those of others we reviewed with that style. The backpack-style shoulder and waist straps operate smoothly and interlock in a puzzle-buckle style to lock securely into the crotch buckle. The whole process is fairly easy and smooth, even when securing the fussiest toddler in safely.

Brakes
The single-action brake is a press-to-set, lift-to-release style that is easy to disengage with the top of the foot. The brake pedal is surprisingly small and sits right next to the frame; depending on the shoes we wore, both factors made it somewhat difficult to use.

Ease of Setup
The YOYO 3 assembly out of the box should have been easy with its combined written and picture instructions; however, it took close to 25 minutes to interpret the directions for putting it together, which were less than informative and at times, outright confusing. The canopy, in particular, is hard to attach due to the design of the attachment area where it fits.

Car Seat Compatiblity
If you are looking to attach a car seat, this stroller is compatible with the YOYO car seat from Cybex, Nuna, Clek, and Maxi-Cosi, with the purchase of a separate adapter.

Maneuverability
The maneuverability is about average but leaves a lot to be desired on both pavement and rougher terrain; it scored poorly compared to other travel strollers.

On flat terrain or pavement, this cruiser has low rolling resistance and is easy to push straight, but when attempting one-handed turns, it tends to want to tip over, likely because the front wheels are wider than the rear. This is frustrating if you are juggling multiple items and have to stop to use both hands to center all four wheels back on the ground to navigate a turn safely.

Off-pavement, the YOYO 3 did okay but struggled somewhat on loose/rocky dirt and got hung up on cobblestones. The thinner wheels helped somewhat, but it bounced around a lot and was hard to control. However, going up and down curbs was impressively easy thanks to the slightly longer wheelbase and lower overall center of gravity.

Quality
Overall, the YOYO 3 features average-quality materials compared to many competitive strollers.

Most of the material is a tough, waterproof-feeling canvas that seems durable, and the sling seat is soft and skin-friendly. The padding is actually a thick insert that provides more than enough passenger comfort. Despite the other solid material choices, the fabric on the canopy is soft but doesn't seem as durable.

The foam-filled, smaller-than-average tires measure 5.3" in the front and rear and are impressively tough, resisting pitting even on gravel and rougher terrain. The black frame is primarily aluminum, but a significant portion is plastic, which seems durable but may break if thrown around or into an airplane's cargo hold. Construction is solid, with very little flex, but lots of visible rivets prevent the frame from having a sleek appearance.

Kid's Comfort
Travel strollers aren't meant for the most comfortable passenger experience, and while the YOYO 3 has some features we like, overall it's below-average.

Seat
The seat fabric is nice, and the padded insert is sufficiently thick for comfort; there is an optional little pillow, but only taller kids can rest their heads on it. The seat reclines with two loops on each side, but the resulting 40-degree angle might not be far enough back for some passengers to nap comfortably or at all. When reclined, there is also no additional ventilation. The YOYO 3 seat edge is well-padded but has no leg rest, leaving the legs unsupported. The frame footrest is closer to the seat than on some travel models, but it's still, sadly, too far for younger passengers to reach.

Sunshade
Although the canopy looks small, it offers impressive coverage that will keep passengers protected from the elements at any time of day. There are two peek-a-boo windows, one vinyl and one mesh; unfortunately, you can cover or uncover only one at a time, since they both use the same cover flap. We found that operating the canopy to open or close it is stiff and noisy, producing a clicking sound that could wake or startle a passenger.

Should You Buy the Stokke YOYO 3?
No. The Stokke YOYO 3 stroller is an average-quality stroller with a higher price point. Although there are several features we really like, including the smooth harness adjustment, a compact folded size, and full canopy coverage, there are lower- or similarly priced travel strollers with the same positive attributes that are easier to use, offer better maneuverability, and include higher-quality components that will last for years. While we think most buyers wouldn't regret purchasing the Yoyo 3, there are other options that are better and offer more bang for the buck.
What Other Travel Strollers Should You Consider?
A favorite travel stroller of ours is the similarly priced UPPAbaby Minu v3, with its enormous storage basket and canopy, excellent maneuverability, and higher quality materials. Although it is slightly heavier to carry at 16.7 lbs., travelers can't go wrong with the Minu v3. If you like many of the YOYO 3's features but felt it was already a stretch on the budget, you'll love the more affordable Zoe Traveler, which outshone the Yoyo 3 in our tests, delivering good quality, easier transport and storage, and far more impressive child-comfort features.
