Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
Babyletto is over ten years old and headquartered in Los Angeles. They design modern nursery furniture including cribs, dresser, seating, and more. They strive to create thoughtful, detail oriented pieces that are “consciously crafted.”
Mattress Fit
Finding a crib and mattress that pair well together with a not too tight and not too loose fit is important. The Lolly performed well in our tests for mattress fit, using more than 6 top crib mattresses.
With each mattress we tried we had less than one finger width of space between the mattress edge and the crib slats. There is less than a 0.5 inch gap on all sides, which is “just right” providing enough room to lift the mattress for easy sheet changes.
While the outside of the crib has rounded corners, the inside corners are more square to fit most mattress types.
Eco-health
The Lolly scored well for eco-health with a Greenguard Gold certification.
This crib is 100% Solid New Zealand Pine Wood, a renewable resource. It is finished in a non-toxic painting and staining process that is phthalate—and lead-free. Babyletto claims this crib has been tested for over 10,000 chemical emissions and VOCs. We appreciate that it has a metal wire mattress platform to avoid the MDF board we used to frequently see instead.
Adjustability
The Lolly performed well in our tests for adjustability.
This crib has a platform height adjustment range of 8.8 inches in total. Its lowest height is 8.2 inches from the ground, and its highest setting is 17 inches from the ground. This makes it one of the highest platform heights in the group for newborns and young infants. There are four height options that require an Allen wrench to adjust to.
The Lolly is one of a few that comes with the toddler rail and doesn't require an additional purchase to convert it to a toddler bed with the rail. We recommend storing additional parts in a place you will remember when the time comes, should your goal be a longer lifespan with this crib.
Ease of Assembly
The Lolly is about average for ease of assembly. While we appreciated the lack of styrofoam packaging (no clinging pieces to the crib), it did take longer than many competitors with an almost 42 minute setup time.
This crib had multiple fasteners that were similar in size and four unique fasteners for the toddler rail (these will be hard to replace should you lose them).
The assembly is pretty straightforward, but the hardware comes in a mixed bag, which is frustrating given the size similarities in the parts. You'll need an Allen wrench (included) and a screwdriver (you provide).
Should You Buy the Babyletto Lolly 3-in-1?
The Lolly is a simple and beautiful crib that avoids being flashy while still being fancy. We like the higher quality materials and sleek fit and finish of the Lolly, which has delicate-looking but substantial round slats and inset feet. This crib is Greenguard Gold Certified, pairs well with most mattresses, and skips the styrofoam in its packaging. If your budget is big enough, we think the Lolly is sure to please.
What Other Baby Crib Should You Consider?
If you want something a little more substantial for the long term, the Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 is another potential contender. It has much in common with the Lolly but is slightly smaller and has a more substantial feel with a stockier design. If your budget is smaller, you can't go wrong with the Storkcraft Equinox 3-in-1 (though it is longer and you'll need more room) or the Carter's by DaVinci Colby 4-in-1 with its straightforward design and operation that proves a crib doesn't need to be fancy to work well.
