Ease of Use

The Beside Me is one of the easiest options in the group to use.

Accessibility

The Beside Me is very accessible for parents as a co-sleeper, assuming your mattress setup is the right height. The one side of the bassinet that fits against the parent bed has a zippered drop side and the bassinet mattress height isn't too deep. The height of the basinet is adjustable up and down and there is a long strap that fits under the parent mattress to help secure it to the parent bed.

Portability/Mobility

This product is relatively portable both from room to room and for travel if you travel by car. The setup is simple and straightforward and the entire product is fairly flat when not assembled. While it does not have wheels, it is fairly lightweight and, when empty, can be moved from room to room and used as a free-standing bassinet with the side up. It weighs 17.5 pounds and measures 26-30.5 inches high, 39 inches long, and 27 inches wide. The mattress height can be adjusted from 14-19 inches high.

Additional Features

This bassinet can be used as a co-sleeper attaching to the parent's bedside with the side down or it can be used as a standalone bassinet with the side up. You should pay special attention to the height limitations to avoid being frustrated with a product that doesn't work with your bed. It has adjustable-height legs that move relatively smoothly up and down by turning a knob. The leg “feet” are also adjustable in and out for added stability.

Ease of Setup

The Beside Me setup is remarkably simple and straightforward. All of the parts snap together without the use of any tools. The legs come attached and fold out with a spreader bar and that is about all you need to do.

Cleaning

You can clean this bassinet fairly easily with a cover that unzips and can be tossed in the washing machine and the dryer. This design makes it one of the few that can be good to go as soon as your dryer buzzer goes off.

Breathability

The Deamer has great breathability, thanks to primarily mesh sidewalls with very little fabric panel portions.

There is a fabric rim along the top, but three sides accessible by napping little ones are mesh. The fourth side, which rests against the parent's bed, is a breathable mesh-covered batting.

Sleep Surface

The Beside Me has an overall good sleeping surface and scores just above average.

The 0.75-inch thick mattress is firm and fits snugly in the frame. It's so snug that it actually needs to be pushed into place, so there is no gapping on any side. Thanks to the snug fit, there is no need for Velcro or other securing measures.

A downside is that the frame on the bassinet flexes a little. It's not so much to cause the bassinet to tip over, but it has more side-to-side movement than much of the competition.

Quality

The Baby Delight's overall quality is good, but still misses the mark compared to more expensive options.

This bassinet has a significant side-to-side flex. The flex arises from the legs, while the body of the Beside Me is actually very stable. The fabric and mesh are all soft and there is enough cushioning where it is needed for comfort for baby and parents. Everything fits together well and looks nice.

Eco-Health

The Baby Delight had a slightly below average eco-health test score.

The mattress is made with polyester fiber batting. While we wish it was made with natural materials, it's still a step above the VOC and toxic chemical-rich polyurethane foam ubiquitous in the bassinet world. Unfortunately, the mattress is supported by an MDF board backing, which can emit formaldehyde. All fabrics are made of polyester, though you can purchase a cotton sheet separately.

Should You Buy the Baby Delight?

If you are shopping on a budget and need an easy-to-use bassinet to get you through those sleepless first few months with a newborn, the Baby Delight is a great choice. Use it as a co-sleeper to conveniently soothe your baby from bed or use it as a freestanding bassinet anywhere in your home. Rest assured, it's made with breathable, machine-washable materials and a firm mattress, though the frame does have some movement and the low height may not fit tall beds.

What Other Bassinets Should You Consider?

For a more solid frame at a slightly higher price, the Arm's Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper is an excellent choice with higher mattress settings, though it doesn't fold down like the Baby Delight for travel. You may also consider the slightly more expensive Halo BassiNest Swivel Sleeper 3.0 which swivels over your bed for even more convenient access to your baby. However, the HALO frame isn't as sturdy as the Arm's Reach and it isn't easy to move around the house.
