Our Verdict

The Babyletto Pure Core with Dry Waterproof Cover is a nice, lightweight mattress that uses a recyclable polyester batted pad core. We appreciate the use of something other than polyurethane and the polyethylene waterproof layer, which makes clean-ups easier and keeps the mattress clean. We love that it is a budget-friendly choice and think it could be the right fit for some families. This mattress does not include any natural materials outside of the cotton cover, and this could be a deal breaker for families looking for natural or organic materials. However, we appreciate that it is a firm and affordable mattress that is potentially better than other inexpensive options that rely heavily on petroleum-based foam.

Our Analysis and Test Results

For more than ten years, Babyletto has been operating out of California, designing modern nursery components. They make simple and stylish cribs, dressers, mattresses, and more. Their goal is to create detailed and thoughtful furniture that is “consciously crafted.

Materials

The Babyletto does not use natural materials to create the inner core pad or the waterproof cover. However, we still prefer these materials over polyurethane foam.

The Babyletto comes with a waterproof cover made from polyethylene.

The inner core of this mattress is recyclable polyester batting, which is wrapped in flame-retardant modacrylic batting. The materials also include organic cotton for the cover and polyethylene as a waterproof layer.

The dry waterproof cover is triple laminated and easy to clean, and the entire mattress is free from PVC, vinyl, and phthalates.

The collective size and weight measurements of the Babyletto indicate that sheet changes should be fairly easier compared to heavier or larger mattresses.

Sheet Changing

This mattress did not score well in our tests for sheet changes despite being lightweight.

The difficulty of sheet changes is comprised of two main components: weight and how snuggly the mattress fits in the crib. While you want a mattress to fit snug enough to be safe (less than a two-finger-width gap on any side), you don't want it so snug that it is deformed by the crib slats or takes great effort to pull loose for sheet changes.

The Babyletto is one of the lighter options in the group, weighing 12 lbs, while a couple weigh more than 20 lbs. It is easy to pick up and carry, but the snug fit in most test cribs hurt its overall score for sheet changes. As your baby grows, your mattress platform will get lower, and reaching deep into a crib to pull a mattress free can be a challenge. However, most testers felt that they'd rather have a snug fit than a heavy mattress.

The Babyletto fits well in even our smallest test crib, but the fit is snug on the ends and sides.

Crib Fit

The Babyletto is on the larger side in this group of tested mattresses and as a result only scored about average for the group.

This mattress did fit in all of our test cribs. However, it is one of the longest and widest, with measurements of 52.4 X 28.4 inches in our tests. While this is within the standard guidelines, it is somewhat larger, and this results in a very snug fit with no gap in some cribs we paired it with.

The Babyletto fits snuggly in our test cribs, but it can be almost too snug if the crib is smaller.

While safe for a baby, this snug fit could make getting the mattress up and exposed for sheet changes could be challenging. However, it did successfully fit in all of the test cribs.

The Babyletto is a lightweight solution for those who are less concerned with all-natural materials and looking for a simple, non-off-gassing choice.

Should You Buy the Babyletto Pure Core with Dry Waterproof Cover?

If you want a high-quality, lightweight mattress that isn't polyurethane foam, the Babyletto is one of the best in the bunch. This option comes with a waterproof layer to help keep the inside clean, and the cover is made of organic cotton. It is a simple, straightforward mattress with a budget-friendly price and a recyclable core.

What Other Crib Mattresses Should You Consider?

The Bayletto is a little bigger than some competitors, and we recommend checking it with your current crib before missing your return window. The My Green Mattress Emily Natural fits better in our crib tests and uses more natural materials if that is a goal. If you want the most natural materials with the highest degree of transparency, the Avocado Organic and the Naturepedic Organic Cotton Classic 150 Seamless 2-Stage are our favorites, but they come with higher weights and prices.
