Our Verdict

We love the Comotomo baby bottle for many reasons. From the shape of the nipple to how easy it is to clean, the Comotomo will keep both babies and parents happy. The lightweight silicone body is a healthier material than plastic, keeping worrisome chemicals away from your baby's food, and it's soft and squishy, which feels more skin-like and adds grip for babies' tiny hands. While no baby bottle is free of shortcomings, the Comotomo didn't have as many as some other contenders in our best baby bottle review. The natural insulation properties of silicone can make it slow to warm, and the volume markings can be tricky to see. However, overall, the Comotomo baby bottle is one we highly recommend for your baby's mealtime.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Just a few years ago, Comotomo was pioneering the field of silicone bottles, and it was unlike any other bottle we had encountered before. There are a few more silicone options on the market, but the Comotomo is still one of the best.

Compared to the lineup of bottles in our best baby bottle review, there is much to like about the Comotomo. With only three parts to wash and assemble for feeding, the Comotomo keeps it simple, making it one of the easiest options to use. There is even a tiny tab on the side of the nipple ring to help you screw it on tightly.

While we never experienced any leaks from this bottle, the nipple cap snaps on to catch any stray milk. Cleaning the Comotomo does not require a bottle brush, thanks to its wide mouth opening. You will still want a smaller brush to clean the nipple, but the process is relatively quick and painless. We appreciate the wide neck size of the bottle's opening, which makes it easier to avoid spills and messes while transferring breastmilk or mixing formula.

A silicone bottle can offer you the best of both worlds. You get the lightweight feel of plastic and peace of mind from using a healthier material similar to glass. Also, the body of this bottle is soft and pliable, making it easier for your baby's tiny hands to grab. The nipple mound is wider and closely resembles the breast, making it easier for a baby to get a good latch.

Dislikes

Every bottle will have a few flaws, and the Comotomo is no exception. Between the soft silicone body and narrow base, this bottle is more likely to tip over. We had no problems with leakage when we held the bottle upside down, but the squishable nature of the body can cause accidental leakage if squeezed. You will have to take extra care if you want to toss it in the diaper bag, but the nipple cap also helps with this. Be warned; it pops off more easily than we would like and may not catch every spill.

The volume markings are merely a different texture of silicone on the side of the bottle, and they are somewhat difficult to read in low light. Silicone is a natural insulator, which means you will have to wait a bit longer for warm milk than you would with plastic or glass. The nipple is softer than average, and some parents find that in combination with the pliable silicone body, a vacuum is sometimes formed that causes nipple collapse despite the vents.

Last, we love that most of this bottle consists of silicone. However, the rim is made from PPSU plastic, and the milk will come into contact with this when feeding. It is better than using only plastic. Still, some other silicone bottles manage to eliminate any plastic on the inside of the bottle, sealing silicone with silicone to create a plastic-free environment.

Should You Buy the Comotomo?

The Comotomo is a baby bottle we adore. Its silicone material will bring peace of mind to the health-conscious with the durability you won't find in glass and the simplicity of cleaning and assembling that will keep your baby's feeding times running smoothly. We think this bottle could work for babies who primarily nurse or shift between breastfeeding and bottle feeding.

What Other Baby Bottles Should You Consider?

It can be nice to have a few glass bottles on hand, and we think the NUK Simply Natural Glass is worth considering. It's a high-ranking contender that uses borosilicate glass, a more durable glass type. It's also more eco-friendly than silicone because it's recyclable. For added convenience, the NUK bottles are dishwasher safe, and the material will not hold stains or smells.
