Performance Comparison
Ease of Use
This chair is a versatile option with several different adjustment points depending on the age of the user and skill level.
Depending on what you need, this high chair can work for babies, toddlers, children, or adults, and it can pull up to a table or a counter-height island.
The adjustments are easy to make with no tools, and it feels sturdy, like something you'd really use as your child ages, instead of something an engineer thought would make it more marketable.
The plastic tray cover on this chair is easy to remove but not as smooth to get back in place. There are two buttons on the sides and slots to slide it into. While not challenging, it is somewhat stiff, and we think there is some potential for pinching if you aren't careful or observant.
The Abiie has a 5-point harness (can also be used as a 3-point) that is easy to adjust, even with a little one in the chair. The seat has four height options, and the footrest has 5. It can be used as a high chair, toddler chair, step stool, or chair for an adult.
Ease of Cleaning
This tray is designed with cleanliness in mind, from the Anti-microbial heat sterilization of the wood to the thoughtful design of the padding and tray for easy cleaning.
For anyone who has ever fed a child or watched a toddler feed themselves, you know messes are part of the deal. This chair comes with a stain-resistant, waterproof cushion that easily wipes clean with a wet cloth. The entire pad can be removed so nothing gets stuck underneath or in any crack. You can even give it a good spray down in the shower if you need to! The plastic tray is removed with one hand and is easy to hand wash or plop in the dishwasher (we recommend handwashing all plastic for longevity).
The chair itself does have some cracks and crevices where food and liquids could get trapped or hide. But many of the parts are removable, exposing most locations where gunk can collect.
Quality
This chair has much in common with other more popular adjustable wood high chairs we've seen and tested. With similar adjustability and longevity, placing them side by side with similar expectations is easy.
While we think this is a fine, quality option compared to most chairs, it isn't as sleek or finished-looking as similar options we've seen. However, it feels durable, sturdy, and long-lasting, and all the moving parts and foam on our chair worked as they should without a hiccup. Given the savings over similar chairs, we suspect that most parents will be more than happy with the Abiie sitting front and center at their dinner table.
Ease of Set Up
This high chair has a longer setup time than much of the competition that often comes pre-assembled, at least partially. The instructions are useful, but we've seen better. We noticed it is very important to assemble the chair on a level surface before tightening all of the bolts to avoid creating an uneven leg-related wobble. Luckily, you only need to set this chair up once, as the adjustments after that are quick with no tools.
Footprint and Portability
As a mostly wood chair, you can bet this option isn't a lightweight product, but it isn't as heavy as you might expect, with an overall weight of only 4 lbs over most of the competition at nearly 18 lbs.
However, the footprint is smaller at 21.5"L x 17.5"W, compared to the chairs with wide-leg placement. It is small enough to move easily through doorways, and we had no trouble moving it from room to room.
Should You Buy the Abiie Beyond Wooden High Chair?
If you want a solid, well-built chair with the aesthetic of the Stokke Tripp but not the price tag, the Abiie Beyond is a great choice. It can also grow with your child, which is an added benefit. These factors make it one of our favorite chairs in the group.
What Other High Chair Should You Consider?
The Munchkin 360 Cloud, although different in appearance, comes in at a similar, slightly lower price and only slightly lower overall score. And it has the added benefit of having a curved, baby-shaped seat that, we're not going to lie, looks a bit comfier than the Abiie's more linear shape. If you want a wood chair and your budget is unlimited, then the Stokke Tripp Trapp Bundle is a high-quality choice that also grows with your child and offers features and functions many competitors do not have.
